Sick absolute encoders are more complex sensors than incremental encoders. Their main task is to fix the absolute position in the event of a loss of power. The rotation angle sensors provide information about the current position, steering angle and speed. The determining factor when choosing an absolute encoder is the number of pulses per revolution (resolution) as well as the number of revolutions (singleturn or multiturn). The current position is determined by assigning a unique combination to each shaft position. Powering the equipment on and off (even emergency) does not affect the information received from the absolute encoder.

Features of Sick inc. products are their versatility and programmability. Therefore, among the advantages of absolute Sick encoders are the following:

  • Robust design and a wide range of models with both hollow shaft and solid shaft.
  • Measurement accuracy of the absolute position.
  • Programmable interface with Profibus and Ethercat compatibility.
  • A high resolution.
  • High protection and durability.
