Encoder is a sensor which tracks linear and angular object displacements and converts them into electronic signals. It allows tracking and measuring an object position in a limited space.

Today encoders are one of the key parts of industrial automation systems. These devices supply data necessary for object localization. When an object is rotating or moving, encoders are capable of gathering and transmitting precise information about an object’s position. Therefore, encoders are widely used in industrial equipment.

Sick Stegmann is one of the World leading manufacturers of angular displacement transducers.  The company is among the best in the field of industrial technologies. We are glad to present  high quality technologically advanced Sick equipment in our catalog.

In the group of industrial digital encoders, Sick offers several types of angular displacement transducers:

Incremental and absolute rotary encoders

Incremental encoders provide data on position, angle and number of turns. The resolution is set by the number of pulses per turn that the encoder transmits to the control unit. The current position is defined by the control unit counting these pulses.

Rotary encoders provide object position data in two-dimensional format. We offer a broad range of Sick rotary encoders for all types of industrial and commercial applications, including single-turn and multi-turn devices.

  • Incremental encoders require a zero point manually set.
  • Absolute encoders determine a zero position independently.

Incremental encoders are simpler in design than absolute encoders. They’re used in most cases. Program setting option and ease of use makes Sick incremental encoders widely demanded in all kinds of industrial equipment applications and solutions. There are a variety of Sick models, designed for different tasks, to choose from. In terms of precision, resolution, convenience, working conditions and functionality it’s easy to find the unit best fit to your requirements.

Optical encoders with high resolution

Optical encoders are designed for heavy duty motion control applications in harsh industrial environments. Hollow shaft and shafted types devices are available.

Magnetic transducers

Magnetic transducers are the most reliable and durable devices offered by Sick. They are designed to work in heavy duty industrial applications even in harshest environments and conditions.

Linear encoders

Sick linear encoders are capable of determining an object's absolute position without direct contact. These devices use digital technology to read and transmit linear movements. Linear encoder’s design idea is to record an object’s absolute position without mechanical wear, by reading movements of the read head over the reference scale. The unit transmits position data in digital format directly to the control interface. There’s no need for zero point calibration. Sick linear encoders product line offers the widest array of devices, from compact high resolution to robust long length (for distances up to 1700 m). That makes Sick linear encoders suitable for a wide variety of industrial applications.

Cable reel encoders

These devices are designed for the toughest heavy-duty industrial conditions. They have the lowest maintenance cost and high measurement accuracy. The measuring unit in the cable reel encoder reads the rotation movement while the rope is stretched and unwinded. This greatly simplifies the tasks of linear positioning.

Robust aluminum housing protects against mechanical damage and loss of accuracy. As the result, minimal maintenance is required.

Sick Stegmann encoders are technologically advanced innovative devices. They have a long success story of implementation in industrial system automation for a wide array of applications and industries. Precision and accuracy of measurement are guaranteed by solid Sick research and testing experience base and product development efforts.

Eltra Trade s.r.o. is the Sick industrial equipment distributor. We offer the widest range of various types of encoders suitable for most industrial application and automation tasks.
