The frequency converter is used in conjunction with an asynchronous motor, automatically converting the AC frequency to the required parameters. Thus, the device controls the speed and torque of electric motors in a continuous process. Using an electrical device, you can not only fully automate production processes, but also achieve significant energy savings - up to 50%. Today we will talk about the line of frequency converters Schneider Electric Altivar 12.
Altivar 12
The Altivar 12 frequency converter is designed for three-phase asynchronous motors from 200 to 240 V and from 0.18 to 4 kW.
The easy commissioning of the Altivar 12 with its Plug&Play concept, compactness, built-in functions, and platform-based design is adapted for use in simple production machines and some consumer electronics.
The ease of commissioning along with the application of the product concept makes it possible to offer an economical and reliable solution to simple compact machine (OEM) designers and integrators.
Altivar 12 has been adapted for use in simple industrial machinery and in some consumer electronic appliances:
- Food industry (packing machines, kitchen ventilation, dough mixers, presses, etc.).
- Means of small-scale mechanization (car washing, simple conveyors, etc.).
- Medical equipment (medical beds, treadmills).
- Machines with single-phase power supply (woodworking machines, machines for polishing and cleaning surfaces, pumps for swimming pools or irrigation systems, whirlpool machines, etc.).
- Innovative systems (solar batteries, etc.).
- Replacement of DC motors, two-speed motors, mechanical speed variations, etc.
- The smallest inverter with a built-in EMC filter for compact machines.
- Intuitive and clear programming.
- Configuration without power connection even in the factory packaging.
- The product is ready to work in the most adverse conditions.
- Simple and fast commissioning.
- High-quality electronic components designed for 10 years of operation Noise reduction and ease of maintenance.
- Inverters without fans up to 0.75 kW at 240 V.
- Cassette type fan: turns on automatically when heat is detected.
- Possibility of connecting three-phase electric motors to a single-phase network.
Altivar 12 Drives is immediately ready for use. Configuration is done using the navigation knob or the SoMove software. The configured source file can even be loaded into the packaged drive using the multi-loader. You can concentrate on your work because you don't waste time commissioning the inverter.
Schneider Altivar 12, along with the functions traditional for this class of drives, also has the following functionality:
- Switching between local control and terminal control.
- Engine control laws: scalar, vector, and quadratic.
- Frequency window skip.
- Set speeds.
- PID controller.
- S and U-shaped acceleration-deceleration curves, switching acceleration-deceleration rates.
- Freewheel stop and quick stop.
- Step-by-step operation (JOG).
- Configuration of analog and discrete inputs.
- Underload and overload control.
- Displaying the state of discrete inputs on the FC screen.
- Configuring the parameter display.
- Fault history, etc.
Optional equipment
Sometimes you may need additional equipment to use the ATV 12 such as:
- Plate for mounting the inverter on a DIN rail 35 mm wide.
- EMC compliance kit (EMC plate, cable clamps, fasteners).
- Voltage converter +15V/+24V (connected directly to the inverter control terminal).
- USB/RJ45 cable.
- Modbus to Bluetooth adapter.
- Loader.
- Multiloader.
- Cable for a multi loader.
- Remote terminals and connecting cables.
- Braking modules and resistors.
- Optional EMC input filters.
- Output chokes.
When using the mobile phone software, it is possible to edit the parameters of the frequency converter from the mobile phone itself.
There are different series of this line of drives such as atv12hu, atv12h, atv12p, atv12pu.
Replacement of ATV 11 with ATV 12
The ATV12 frequency converter is compatible with the latest version of ATV11, however, there are a few differences between them.
Both of these series of converters (ATV11 and ATV12) are available in two design modifications: with a cooling radiator or on a platform.
The auxiliary voltage supplied by the ATV12 for the control circuits is 24 V instead of 15 V for the ATV11. When replacing an ATV11 converter with an ATV12, it is necessary to connect the voltage converter VW3A9317 to 24 V in case an external automation system needs to be powered.
For digital inputs LI it is not necessary to use a voltage converter. The ground terminal is on the right side of the terminal block (it was on the left side of the ATV11 drive) and the screw is colored green. The control terminals are located and marked differently, there are differences in the configuration, see the Schneider Altivar 12 manual for more details.
When replacing an ATV11 with an ATV12 drive, ensure that all electrical connections of the ATV12 fully comply with the installation instructions, refer to the Operation Manual for more information on mounting holes and dimensions.
