And now let's pay attention to some points of the instructions for Schneider Altivar 312:

  • The transducer is mounted in a vertical position ± 10°.
  • Do not install the inverter near heating elements.
  • Leave enough space so that the air needed to cool the device can circulate from the bottom to the top.
  • Free space in front of the device: >10 mm.
  • It is recommended to remove the protective film from the top of the inverter (see the figures below).
  • It is recommended to install the inverter on a heat sink surface.

Installation methods
There are 3 ways to install it:

  • Free space u 50 mm on each side with protective foil. This method is suitable for inverter operation at ambient temperature < 50 °C.
  • The inverters with the protective films removed are installed close to each other (the degree of protection becomes IP20).
  • Free space u 50 mm on each side. To operate the inverter at an ambient temperature > 50 °C, the protective films must be removed. The degree of protection becomes equal to IP20.

Mounting recommendations

Power supply and circuit protection
The transmitter must always be grounded in order to comply with the regulations for high leakage currents (above 3.5 mA). If the regulations require the use of a differential protection device at the input, then it is necessary to use a type A device for the inverter with a single-phase supply and a type B with a three-phase supply. Choose a customized model including:

  • filtering of high-frequency currents;
  • a time delay that excludes any shutdown caused by a load of parasitic capacitances when the supply voltage is turned on. Time delay is not possible for 30 mA devices. In this case, use devices that are resistant to accidental shutdowns.

When installing multiple inverters, use differential protection devices for each inverter.

Separate power cables from low-voltage circuits (sensors, PLCs, instrumentation, televisions, telephones, etc.).
When using cables longer than 50 m between the inverter and the motor, install output filters.

Control circuits
Separate control circuits from power cables. For control and speed reference circuits, use shielded twisted-core cables with a twist pitch of 25 to 50 mm, with the shield earthed at both ends.

Equipment grounding
Ground the inverter in accordance with the requirements of the regulations. Use an earth conductor with a cross-section of at least 10 mm², in accordance with the requirements for limiting leakage current.
