A switch disconnector is a control device that can be used to open and close a circuit under normal operating conditions. The switch-disconnector can make or break its rated current. In the event of an overload or short circuit, it must be protected by a superior device in accordance with the installation standards. Today we take a closer look at Schneider Electric switch disconnectors.
Types of Schneider Electric Switch Disconnectors
Schneider Electric has been making equipment for over 30 years. At the moment, the company provides a wide range of switch disconnectors that are suitable for a variety of applications among which.
- ComPact INS/INV. Switch-disconnectors to interrupt lines up to 2500 A.
- FuPacT. Fusegear to interrupt and protect distribution lines up to 1250 A.
- ComPact NSXm NA. Switch-disconnectors to interrupt lines up to 160 A.
- ComPacT NSXm NA, new generation. Switch-disconnectors, to interrupt lines up to 160 amps.

The switch disconnector is a switching device with a switch disconnector fuse unit for accidental manual switching/shutdown of loads and switchboards. It is capable of making, carrying, and breaking the specified rated current (including certain overloads). It protects subsequent electrical loads by safely disconnecting all poles from the power supply under load.
The fused switch-disconnector combines the features of a switch-disconnector and a disconnector in addition to the protection provided by fuses. It consists of three switches, each of which forms a double break per phase. These blades are not solid throughout their length, but each has a gap in the center that is bridged by a fuse holder. This circuit has the disadvantage that when the fuse is replaced, the electrical circuit to which it is connected may remain energized.
Schneider Electric switch disconnectors are specifically designed to help you control the security of electrical networks. Among the advantages of switch disconnectors are the following:
- Has an isolation function.
- Withstands strong short circuits.
- Opens and closes manually or automatically.
- Opens and closes manually on a panel with rotary handles.
- Switches large currents.
- Switches under load.
Applications of Schneider Electric Switch Disconnectors
Switch disconnectors quickly disconnect circuits from power sources in the event of an emergency. Switch disconnectors can work in conjunction with circuit breakers, devices that interrupt the flow of electricity in a circuit when the current exceeds the circuit's capacity. Some disconnectors are suitable for AC systems. Others are for DC systems. Products for single-phase and three-phase supply are also available.
Here are the main areas of use of such devices.
- The machine on/off (HVAC, crane, pump, conveyor)
- Power distribution
- Low voltage switchboard
- Motor control centers (isolation and protection of motor starters)
- Security Applications
- power plants
- UPS and telecom applications
- solar applications
