What are ultrasonic level sensors?
Siemens SITRANS PROBE LU is device for measuring the level of liquids and gaseous media in conditions where contact with the medium being measured is dangerous or difficult. For instance, ultrasonic level detectors are spent to monitoring tanks with oil products, liquefied gas, alkalis, acids and other aggressive liquids.
Ultrasonic level sensors provide reliable and economical continuous measurement of liquids that do not contain foam, vapours, fumes or gases. Suitable for use in plastic, metal or specific tanks, sumps, containers or other containers.
The principle of operation of ultrasonic level sensors is based on the emission of a noise wash in the supersonic area. The wave leaves the emitter, is reflected from the surface of the substance and returns to the receiver. These sensors use ultrasonic waves as an information carrier. The transducer sends out a pulse of sound and converts the received reflected signal into a voltage. By measuring the time until the arrival of the reflected signal from the sound speed factor, the controller integrated into the sensor calculates the length to the entity.
