Burkert Type 8008 of flow meters is designed for measuring particularly high flow rates and uses the colorimetric measuring principle. 
The heated sensor element is cooled by the gas flow.

This cooling effect, depending on the flow rate and gas characteristics are a measure of mass flow.

This type of mass flow measurement is independent of pressure and temperature.

The flowmeter can be used to control the air supply, but it is also suitable for measuring other gases - provided corresponding calibration.
