Rodless pneumatic cylinder is designed as a self-contained linear actuator with a unique design that provides great flexibility. Thanks to their unique design, rodless cylinders are a durable and reliable solution that is easy to maintain; ensuring long-term trouble-free operation. Rodless pneumatic cylinders combine controlled and precise movement with integral support and guidance in any plane.

Univer Rofless Air Cylinders main Features

Rodless cylinders is equipped with extruded aluminum profile and stroke up to 5 m. Different feed port configurations and different types of carriages are available. High travel speed 1 ÷ 3 m/s.

Peculiarities:

  • Unique Strip Seal: The Univer strip is made from high performance Kevlar reinforced elastomer plastic to withstand tensile force.
  • High Efficiency Shock Absorption: The Univer design incorporates floating shock absorbing seals to help control the rate of smooth descent.
  • Long service life: All dynamic seals and sliding bars have been designed specifically for rodless cylinders to maximize service life.

Rodless versions:

  • S1 Rodless Cylinders: For light duty applications with limited loads as the bottom bracket is not supported by the cylinder frame.
  • S5 rodless cylinders: for medium duty applications as the carriage is supported by external guides with polymer bearings inside the cylinder frame.
  • VL rodless cylinders: for heavy duty applications as the carriage is supported by external roller bearing guides inside the cylinder frame.

Specifications:

  • Types: S1 – rodless cylinder without guides; S5 – rodless cylinder with integrated guides (Polymer bearings); VL – rodless cylinder with integrated guides (Roller bearings).
  • Bore (mm): 16, 25, 32, 40 and 50 mm;
  • Stroke: 16 mm – 5 metre (max); 25-50 mm – 6 metre (max);
  • Operating Pressure: 3-10 bar;
  • Fluid: compressed air, filtered 50 m; use with or without lubrication;
  • Operating temperature: max +80 degrees, min -20 degrees;
  • Operating speed: 3 m/s (max) – 20 mm/s (min);
  • Carriage Types: standard, medium and long.

Cushioning data

It is not possible to absorb kinetic energy using end cap cushioning inside the cylinder. External hydraulic shock absorbers must be set according to the load. Alternative pneumatic shock absorbers are available but must be installed in the control system. For more information you can contact our support team.

Pneumatic cylinders are the final actuating devices of the pneumatic system, allowing you to use the power of compressed air for most of the possible actions on automated production lines. Their range of applications includes manipulations such as shearing, clamping or lifting workpieces and tools.

Depending on the purpose, pneumatic cylinders can have different versions of structural elements.

The limitations of conventional rod cylinders are well known, especially when long strokes are required. Unsupported, the cylinder rod tends to bend in the extended position, which can cause excessive wear on the rod and bearing seals, resulting in the need for additional maintenance. Space constraints in the equipment or process may also limit the use of rod cylinders with an overall length greater than twice the stroke length. This can cause problems when designing or mounting cylinders on machines. Rod-type cylinders can also sag under their own weight during long movements, and this misalignment can cause the cylinder rod to bend or deform.

Rodless cylinder Typical applications:

  • Automated production
  • Processing and packaging, e.g. bottling and canning
  • Textiles and ceramics
  • Warehousing
  • Pharmaceutics and chemistry
  • Food production
  • Checking and quality control

Using a rodless cylinder can provide significant engineering savings and greater design flexibility compared to using a rod cylinder.
