Baumer offers a series of rotary and angle encoders designed to determine the value of shaft rotation. Devices are capable of heavy duty operation in harsh conditions and explosive environments with temperature range (-30 to +100 °C, -22 to +212°F).

Rotary encoder is a sensor type providing linear and angular tracking of object movements with electronic signal output. Incremental rotary encoders have a zero coordinate point manually set. Absolute rotary encoders find a zero position automatically. There are optical and magnetic Baumer encoders. Optical sensors gather the position data via changes of the code wheel position tracked by photoreceiver. Magnetic sensors transform changes in magnetic fields generated by sensor magnets into position data output.
